NaNoWriMo 2009

Well, I’m going to try and do NaNoWriMo for the first time this year!  I started on November 1 early in the morning.  As of this writing on November 10, I have written over 11,000 words and 22 pages.  I’m a bit behind the 1600’ish words per day to make the 50,000 word goal by November 30, but this is so far the most I’ve ever written!  I am really hoping to make it.  If nothing else I’m hopeful this will keep me motivated to write more and finish all these writing ideas that are in my head and already down on electronic paper in some form.

I’ll give another update in the future.  Good luck to everyone that has a story in their head and are using NaNoWriMo to get it out!

RIP – Michael Jackson

Well, where do I start?  As most everyone knows by now Michael Jackson died Thursday, June 25, 2009.  He was 50 years old.  I’m going to write about my views, feelings, and opinions on the man.  You may agree or disagree but I’m not going to care.

It was 1982 and I turned 16 that year.  I had a 1970 green Ford Maverick with an AM/FM Radio and an 8-track tape player.  I had an old stereo system that had been fished out of a dumpster and made to work again by my friend Willy’s father.  My mother could not afford a stereo system and this one had an AM/FM stereo with a record player and a cassette player.  I had a Duran-Duran Rio album.  A Foreigner 4 album.  A Loverboy 8-track.  That was about it.  I had a paper route and I bought what I could from the record store, now there’s a bit of history for you as there aren’t many of those left.  I could not find Thriller on 8-track so I saved my money and bought an 8-track to cassette adapter.  Then I went back later and bought the Thriller cassette.

I literally played that cassette until it was worn out.  Then I went back and bought another one.  At the time I was watching as much MTV as I could.  I was unable to watch MTV at my house so I would watch it at my girlfriend’s house.  When any of Michael Jackson’s videos came on I watched them beginning to end.  They were great.  Then, the Thriller video came out.  I could not get enough of it.  Having always been a fan of horror movies, this combined a not-really-scary horror movie with Michael Jackson’s music.  A win-win for me!  I went through 3 cassettes of Thriller.

As time went by, I got Bad, Dangerous, and HIStory.  All of them were just as good to me, especially HIStory.  For me HIStory was just as awesome as Thriller.  Almost every song on HIStory was great!

Did Michael do all the things he was accussed of?  I don’t know.  You know what?  Nobody else seems to either.  I do know that Michael suffered a hard childhood.  That much is documented.  Was he gay?  Some think so.  Did he like to molest young boys?  Some think so.  Did he have a real marraige to Lisa Marie Presley?  They both profess to.  When someone is accussed of having sex with children even if the proof of it is slight, people jump on the guilty bandwagon.  Why, because it is easy to attack someone that hurts children.  I know if I ever caught someone messing with my son(s) or daughter, they wouldn’t last long.  I would not be suing the accused for money, I’d be sending them six feet under.  Damn the consequences!  Now, having said that, if Michael Jackson did the things he was accused of, he deserves whatever fate awaits him.

What I do know is that his music, his videos, his personality that I grew up on, have made so many good memories that I associate when listening to his music and that is what I will always remember.  I hope the best for his three children.  The rest of his family and his entourage that used him as a cash cow for so many years…well I hope the go the place that child molesters go.

First blog from work

This is my first blog from work. I am checking to see how easy it is to blog from my new iPhone 3gs. Safari is very fast now and typing in landscape mode with two thumbs is much better.  I am about to go into a meeting about upcoming code releases.  Should be a load of fun!   LOL!

Father’s Day 2009

I haven’t blogged in quite some time.  I’ve not really been in the mood to do it.  I have been doing some writing on my short story though.  I hope to finish it soon.  Quite a lot has happened since my last blog though.

Let’s see.  Today was Father’s Day.  I had a great day thanks to my wife and children!  It actually started on Friday as we had a BBQ feast prepared by my wife.  All of my children were here and we ate and had our family D&D night.  Having a really good time with that.  Fast forward to Sunday, I can time travel too, and it started with a delicous pancake breakfast prepared by my wife.  My oldest had to work but he came over afterwards.  We went to Lonestar and met my dad and my sister for dinner.  Good time.  We did a bit too much brother-bashing on my brother who currently seems to be making a huge mistake and is about to get married.  But that is another story.  After we got home,  we relaxed and played some cards until my boys had to go.  They are going to finish moving my oldest son’s stuff out of his old house and into his new one.

Thanks to my family for a fantastic Father’s Day!

My wife and I got our new 32GB iPhones Friday.  I plan on doing a review on them later.  Needless to say, they are great!

I also got my Asus Eeepc 1000HE in black.  Again, another review coming but it is also a great device.

Still watching Space 1999.  On season 2 now.  Season 1 was pretty good.  Season 2 is so-so.  They made some changes from the first season that I’m not so sure I like.  More action oriented and not as much story.

Well, hopefully more to come on the blog.

Day 25

Another very busy day at work.  My co-worker was out again today.  Quite hectic, I must say.

Continuing to feel better.  The cough is sticking around but getting less all the time.  I take my last antibiotic tomorrow.  My wonderful wife has taken good care of me.

I am very worried about my brother.  He seems to be getting back into some trouble.  I’ll keep praying for him but I don’t know what more I can do.  We just don’t really talk.  He has always kept himself distant from me and the rest of the family.  I have always had the opinion that family was most important and would always be there for you.  In some ways I am closer to my sister that is over 15 years younger than me and who I was not even raised with than my brother.  Enough of that.

My wife continues to love her Asus Eee 1000HE.  I have to say, it is the best netbook on the market right now in my opinion.  Of course it helps that it is blue, her favorite color.  🙂

I am looking forward to tomorrow, Friday night, as my oldest son and his fiancee are coming over for our family D&D night which my youngest son is running and doing a fine job.  I have to brag on Wizard’s lastest addition to the D&D world.  The D&D Character Creator.  It makes character generation, leveling, and keeping up with your character soooooo much easier than using half a dozen books.  For all you players out there I highly recommend it.

As a final note, if you want a good laugh and what idiotic things people will do for money, watch the television show, Wipeout.  Hilarious!

Night all!

Day 24

Well I went to work today after being home sick for two days with bronchitis.  It was a rough day.  I worked from 7AM to 3PM and then went home and napped.  The day pretty much wiped me out.  Had a light dinner with the family, and then went to bed early after taking my medicine.  The medicine really helps me sleep but makes me feel groggy and hungover.

Anyway back to another work day.  (sigh)

Stayed home one more day.  Still not feeling great but I am going to try and work tomorrow.  The longer I am out the more it piles up.

Day 20

We worked for over 4 hours helping relocate the dojo we take Karate at to a new location.  Five buildings down the road.  Moved equipment, painted, and just about anything else that could be thought of..

Later that night my wife and I went to the Speakeasy downtown to see a local band called RockUBham.  They do live-band karaoke.  I work with two of the four band members.  It was a great time.  I did not get up and sing for two reasons.  I did not feel good and I did not drink anything but diet Coke.  LOL!  Maybe next time.
